Udawalawe National Park

Sri Lanka's Famous Wild Elephant Haven

Located on the boundary of Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces, Udawalawe National Park is one of Sri Lanka’s premier elephant sanctuaries. Created to provide a refuge for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir, the park features expansive open grasslands, bushlands, and riverine habitats that closely resemble an African savanna. Renowned for guaranteed wild elephant sightings, it is also home to water buffaloes, spotted deer, crocodiles, and a rich variety of birdlife.
